Mail Act-On 1.3.2: Universal, even better

Wednesday, March 1st, 2006

mailacton100pxScott Morrison has released an updated version of Mail Act-On, a plugin that quickly files and flags Mail.app messages.

It is incredibly useful. It holds the number two spot in the “Top ten things every mail.app user should have” and is mentioned more than any other plugin in the “Talking Mail.app” interview series.

The new version (1.3.2) is a universal plugin, now offering Act-On goodness for the new Intel-based Macs as well.

It also contains a small bugfix. Rules that are disabled in Preferences will no longer show up in the Act-On Menu.

Mail Act-On is donation-ware and is available from Scott’s web site . Scott also maintains a page of tips for getting the most out of Mail Act-On.mail.app, apple, apple mail, mail act-on, rules, scott morrison, plugins, universal, Intel Macs

MailTags to get new features

Saturday, January 14th, 2006

MailTagsA new version of MailTags is in the pipe-line.

It will deliver an excellent and very useful improvement.

The developer Scott Morrison sent me a preview screenshot of the plugin’s new information panel:

MailTags1_2b

As you can see, MailTags 1.2 will feature synchronization with iCal.

Scott writes, “I have most of it done.”

“It works so that if you change the event in iCal (change name, complete status, due date, etc), MailTags will update it in Mail when you revisit the message.”

This is exactly the kind of integration between iApps that works for me (compare CRM4Mac).

Now you will be able to create an iCal ToDo from a message while you are looking at it. No cutting and pasting, no AppleScript.

With MailTags 1.2, Mail.app users will be one step closer to enjoying the seamless interaction between iCal, Address Book and Apple Mail that makes it an even more serious alternative to Entourage.

It will also make MailTags an even more valuable tool for “Getting Things Done” (GTD) with Mail.app.

Scott adds, “I will get this with bug fixes and the universal version out as MailTags 1.2 hopefully in the next 2 weeks.”

MailTags 1.2 is going to make a real difference to the way I work with Mail.app. I’m looking forward to it.

When 1.2 is released, you will be able to get it from Scott’s web site.mail.app, apple mail, ical, synchronization, integration, todos, applescript, mailtags, universal
