Alternative Address Book icons

Tuesday, October 24th, 2006

RedaddressbookMichael Okeh has created four alternative icons for Address Book for people who are tired of the plain brown notebook or who just like to tweak the look of their Desktop.

You can get them from deviantART .

They come in four assorted colours:

Fouraddressbooks

They are PNG files, so you will need to use a conversion utility like img2icns to convert them into the ICNS format used for application icons.

After that, you can just follow the usual instructions for replacing Mail.app’s icon.address book, icons, tweaking, hacks

Onyx 1.6.6

Wednesday, December 21st, 2005

onyxOnyx, my favourite system maintenance and tweaking tool for Mac, has been updated.

Onyx beats Cocktail because it’s free and it beats TinkerTool because it is more Mail.app-friendly; it can clean obsolete stuff out of your Mail and Mail Downloads folders.

Even though TinkerTool can do some things that Onyx can’t, in my view Onyx remains the Mail.app user’s system maintenance utility of choice.

The updated version features better deleting of temporary files and QuickTime recent items, cleans more caches, has improved error management, deletes brower search histories and – not least – has a snazzy new icon.

Onyx is freeware and available from the developer’s web site.
