A French site offers fifty mail stamp icons featuring the faces of characters drawn by the well-known Anime artist Masamune Shirow.

Shirow is responsible (I read) for such hits within the genre as Black Magic, Appleseed, Dominion, Orion, Ghost In The Shell, Intron Depot and Ghost in the Shell2:Manmachine Interface.

The icons themselves are mostly girls (or possibly boys, I find it hard to tell):

Unlike the last lot of icons I posted, these work fine on a Mac.

A poster on Deviantart has produced two new Mail.app-style stamp icons, in both ICO and PNG format:

Both feature carrier pigeons and are particularly suited to .Mac subscribers or people who use IMAP.

DeviantART has produced some more Mail Stamp icons for people who are tired of looking at the Red-tailed Hawk all day.

The first set is European and avant-garde.

The Mail.app icon is not a stamp and the icon provided for Entourage is.

Of course, you can use the Entourage one for Mail.app if the soft candy-pink look appeals:

The second set is also European but more traditional. It is a collection of six Springtime stamps — a sunset and sunrise in India, an orchid, cherry blossom, magnolia and some kind of pretty purple plant:

A little while ago AOL decided to charge organisations and companies for guaranteed delivery of fully-hyperlinked and imaged emails in users’ inboxes.

A New York Times article described it as “a major change in the economics of the Internet”.

Many saw this a bad thing. Some because it looks like a naked grab for cash , others because it creates a two-tier email system, others because they view it as an attack on free speech (SpamHaus too), others because it might be anti-competitive, putting another squeeze on small businesses but easily absorbed by larger corporations.

Seth Godin, however, puts his head up above the parapet and provides a robust defence of the idea.
