Thunderbird cheatsheet

Wednesday, July 5th, 2006

thunderbird100pxWhether you’re a hard-core Thunderbird user or, like me, just dip into Thunderbird from time to time, you will benefit from Leslie Franke’s Thunderbird cheatsheet.

It’s hard to keep all those shortcuts in your head, so a single page that sets them all out by category is a great tool:

You can view it as a web page or download the PDF.

Quicksilver gets built-in documentation

Monday, June 26th, 2006

quicksilver100pxThe newest version of Quicksilver – β49 (Borzoi) 3771 – has a new tab in the Preferences pane labelled Guide.

At the moment, the four boxes on the left merely jump you to the relevant section of the Preferences, although (I am guessing) in time they will offer specific help files for each option.

The other links offer some good stuff though:

The Documentation link takes you to further sections on Tips and Tricks, a FAQ, tutorials, an overview and more. There is also an Application and plugins reference, offering easy access to the documentation on the Quicksilver site.

I can’t find a link in the new feature to Howard Melman’s user manual, but hopefully that will also appear in the future.

Quicksilver cheatsheet, documentation

Thursday, June 22nd, 2006

quicksilver100pxA flurry of activity on the Quicksilver forums has produced two useful aids for Quicksilver users.

Howard Melman has begun writing a user manual. It’s a work in progress, but it already contains a general introduction to the concepts behind Quicksilver and a guide to installation and basic use.

Further sections on how to use QS with iChat and text and email and much more follow. Frequent screenshots add value to the written instructions.

Howard has also produced a “cheatsheet” or Quick Reference for Quicksilver, which squeezes most of the commonly-used actions onto one page (sample below):

You can get the user manual and/or the cheatsheet in PDF form from Howard’s web site. Thanks yous can be given, and further suggestions made, to Howard in the Quicksilver forum thread .
