iCalFix 0.5: universal, independent, easier to use

Tuesday, July 18th, 2006

ical100pxRobert Blum has released a new version of his alarm-enhancement plugin for iCal, which is much easier to configure.

iCalFix 0.5 is a universal binary and a bona fide input manager. SIMBL is no longer required.

It now also has its own Preferences pane within iCal after installation:

icalfix_prefs

Editing plist files, a feature of previous versions, is no more. All the setting for the default alarm are easily accessible in the Preferences pane.

Lastly, Robert has set up an announcements mailing list to keep users informed of new versions.

He is on the look-out for someone to design an icon for the plugin.

Contact email address, announcement list subscription details and the new plugin itself are available at Robert’s web site . iCalFix is donation-ware.ical, alarms, default, notification, plugins, productivity

Setting a default email address in Address Book

Saturday, December 24th, 2005

addressbookIn a follow-up to his excellent “Making Mac Mail Work for You” article on LowEndMac, Ed Eubanks publishes some feedback from the original article.

One of the user comments contained a tip that was news to me: how to set a default email address for an Address Book contact.

The answer is tucked away in a submenu. In Address Book select “Edit Distribution List…” from the Edit menu.

You will be presented with a screen like this:

distributionlist

Selecting an email address from the list next to each contact turns it bold. That address becomes the default one for Mail.app, but only when the contact is selected as part of an Address Book Group. mail.app, apple mail, address book, contacts, default, email address
