Jeff Hobbs at ldopa.net explains in some detail why he is ditching 30 Boxes and why Google’s calendar is better than iCal, “which for years has been my Gold Standard of calendaring apps”.

He lays out five reasons for preferring the Google offering, but is particularly taken with the Daily Agenda feature:

Every day, Google Calendar can send you an email at 5 AM laying out the events of the rest of your day. This is killer, itâ€™s like Google just hired a personal secretary for everyone on Earth.

And he sees a long-term upside in this too:

And once people realize that they donâ€™t actually need Microsoft Office to Get Things Done, theyâ€™ll soon realize that they donâ€™t actually need Microsoft Windows either.

I guess that everyone on the planet now knows that Google has launched its CL2 web-based calendar.

Scott McNulty at TUAW has written an illustrated tutorial on how to share a calendar from Google Calendar with iCal.

It’s read-only subscription in iCal at the moment, but better integration will soon come.

Just don’t try it in Safari:

For the moment you’ll need to use Firefox (or one of that crowd) to get the best out of this service.
