It also offers quick iCal link to other dates like anniversaries.

AddressbookdatesClicking on a contact’s birthday label brings up a contextual menu containing the information.

Unfortunately, the iCal birthday link takes you to the actual day on which the contact was born (an unlikely date to schedule a candle-lit dinner), not to the next occurrence of that date.
