WordPress update not as smooth as hoped

GrumpysmileyLast night I updated Hawk Wings to WordPress 2.3.2.

It didn’t go as smoothly as I had hoped.

Some text got munged up and some other bits and pieces are broken.

I will work it all out in the end, but apologies for the mess in the meantime.

Don’t you love those Google Ads?

Fancy linking a mismanaged WordPress upgrade with Erectile Dysfunction!

Sorry to read of your troubles, but not sure what you mean by “munged”. I had to look it up: “Munging (pronounced (MUHN-jing or MUHN-ging) is the deliberate alteration of an e-mail address online with the intent of making the address unusable for Web-based programs that build e-mail lists for spamming purposes.” (WhatIs.com). Not the right word?

Or do you mean you’re seeing odd characters after the upgrade? This seems fairly widespread. Check your config.php file for a character set line as noted here.

Bruce, you are a genius!! Thank you.

Come to Melbourne and I will buy you a beer. Several.

That seems to have done the trick.

P.S. Yes, “munged” is probably not the right word.

Wanted to upgrade my blog as well, but after reading this I’m not sure i really need that upgrade :-)

I find Wordpress upgrades to be somewhat of a hassle, and the documentation quite vague. Not everyone who uses Wordpress wants to learn about css and html. If they don’t know they’ll need to going in they’ll find out quickly enough I guess.
