Growl Mail is back! (sort of)
Eagle-eyed Hawk Wings reader Dave Foshee emails to say that he has spotted a Leopard-friendly beta version of GrowlMail.
He found the link in a post
on the Google Groups Discussion list for Growl.
The poster is offering it as a beta and asking for feedback on how well it works.

It works very well for me, so I encourage you to give it a go yourself, especially if you are looking for a slick, visual notification summary of your email.
Of course, you will need to install Growl
first.
[Thanks, Dave!]

Thank you SO much for posting this! Previous workarounds didn’t work for me, and GrowlMail was the one thing I really missed after upgrading to Leopard.

It’s so funny that you mention this. Right before seeing this article, I removed the growlmail bundle from /Library/Mail/Bundles because it was causing Mail to bite the dust.

Maybe I’m dim, but nothing is happening after I run the installer. I found a folder called GrowlMail.mailbundle in /Library/Mail/bundles, but that’s it. No additional preferences in mail as before, and GrowlMail does not show up in the applications list in the Growl preference pane. What am I missing?

It would have been polite to have asked us if it was ok to post this to a broader audience than just the google group. This build has problems, unfortunately posting this means that we may end up with more support requests for it than we had intended.

I was excited to install this, but it is a disappointment. Even though I checked the box for “inbox” only, I am notified even when junk mail comes in. And I am notified in a different growl window for each single email that comes in– so my screen is flooded with emails all the time!
I can’t wait for mail.appetizer to come back!! Any news about if/when it might??

@Chris — Apologies if I have caused extra problems for you.
At the time, I considered that the build was in the public domain. (I still do, really.)
Surely people will understand the “alpha” nature of the build and be tolerant of any problems still to be ironed out.

I was just glad to have the “clickable” growl notification that I didn’t care if it did have bugs. I’ll live with the bugs until something more permanent comes out. @watershed - I dont’ have that problem. It does send me growl messages when I use the move command in Mail Act-On. Which I don’t mind. Let’s me know it got to the right place.
@Chris - I am excited to have SOMETHING that vaguely works. THANK YOU!!!!

The file is no longer available, can you please upload it somewhere else, I know it’s not yours, but if you could do it, it would be great…
Thank you…
