Select the mailbox that you would like to be the Trash folder instead, and then select from Mail’s Mailbox menu, Use this Mailbox for… and then Trash. All done.

I took your advice for making the “all mail” gmail folder the trash folder. I would like to undo this but I can’t seem to figure out how, any ideas?

I’m new to the whole imap game, having switched when gmail let me.

When I’m searching mail.app offline (10.4.x), I have many emails that haven’t been downloaded from the server. As I need to do a lot offline (I travel constantly; might not have a connection for weeks at a time) is there any way to guarantee all my mail gets downloaded?

Does no one realize that almost none of that setup is required? Mail automatically shows up in your “Inbox” and in “[Gmail]/All Mail”. Archiving is simply a matter of deleting the message from your mailbox. Also, sent messages are automatically placed into “[Gmail]/Sent Mail” simply by sending it via “smtp.gmail.com”.

At least with Apple Mail on Tiger you should *not* store the drafts on the server. Otherwise drafts will multiply like heck and show up under “All Mail” by the dozen. (And, no, this isn’t resolved in any way by correctly mapping the Drafts folder â€¦)
