Wide screen plugin for Leopard Mail released
Dane Harnett has released a widescreen plugin for Leopard Mail, which gives Mail.app an “Entourage” or “Outlook” look.
It is not as polished as Letterbox
, the first and best of the widescreen plugins developed for Tiger Mail.
Aaron Harnly is working on the Leopard version
, but if you really can’t wait, and plenty of people seem to think that this is the bees’ knees of email functionality, WideScreenMailPlugin will do the trick.
In essence it shifts the preview pane from the bottom to the right-hand side of Mail.app’s interface:

WideScreenMailPlugin is freeware and available from the developer’s web site
.

This isn’t ready for prime time, I’m afraid. Trying to resize panes is a pain. Just removing the bundle doesn’t cut it, and without instructions on returning Mail to normal ops. pending Letterbox will cause much grief.
Pass on this for now…

They updated it to include an installer and uninstaller package. No more terminal grief!

I think it is pretty great! and so far works better than letterbox did in tiger. i.e. columns don’t resize every time you search or change mailboxes

Thanks for letting us know about this. It works very well for me, though it does seem to slow down the launch time a little. Still, much faster than Entourage, which is why I switched back to Mail. The new features in Leopard are great.
