Mail stamp icons for Canada
Having seen the recent post on UK and USA Mail Stamp icons, Jesse Schooff emails to share a Mail stamp icon for Canada.
He writes:
Antony Ellam’s USA and UK stamps made me envious, so I made a shiny new mail icon for myself using one of our nice Canadian stamps. As per Antony’s convention, the postmark has been changed to Markham, Ontario, where Apple Canada is located. It looks very nice in my dock so I figured I’d share it.
You can download the icon from Hawk Wings.
There is also a Canadian stamp in the “Flags of the World” Mail stamp collection.
As I posted long ago, every Mail user needs to feel grateful towards Canada.
Due to some bizarre operation of Chaos Theory (Wikipedia
), people steeped in maple syrup, lacrosse, mounted policemen, French, the Barenaked Ladies and beaver tails are particularly good at producing top quality Mail.app plugins.
Changing Mail.app’s Dock icon is easy.
I’ve added it to the Hawk Wings Alternative Mail Stamps Icon list, which now contains 332 different icons. With glowing hearts we see thee rise.

Having never had a reason to change any icon before now, I have never muddled with OS X’s default icons. I would like to use this new Canada Mail.app icon, but I can’t seem to get the method you explain in your post here to work. I can copy the icon from the Inspector window of the new icon, but I can’t paste it to Mail.app’s Inspector window (and yes, I remembered to quit Mail). Any idea what I could be doing wrong? I’m on a G4 Mini running 10.4.8.

Terrific, eh? However, letter rate postage in Canada is now $0.51 or $0.52. The rate changes so often now that the Post office doesn’t print the actual value on the stamp….

Further to my problems, strangely enough it works fine on my G3 iBook. I have tried logging out and restarting the Mini. Still no go. My next step will be to repair permissions and run DiskWarrior. Anyway, I realize this isn’t a help desk. I’ll muddle through it.

As a loyal MacUser from above the 49th Parallel, I must say I’m tickled to finally have a Mail icon reflective of my own “home and native land”. Just great!
And the method of switching icons couldn’t be easier.
Thanks very much.

Followed the directions worked immediately. Cool to learn something new and customize the look of my dock. Switched to Mac 3 years ago and I learn something new everyday. No offence to our American cousins but home is sweet, eh!

I did indeed use a fairly old stamp, but I’m not fond of any of the recent ones. I was looking for something with simple colors. :-)
