So I kept reading to find a solution, but got nothing. I then tried again and it worked. Only change: Mail was already closed. No changes in size (3M / 3M), but it seems to react faster now. The database was introduced with Tiger as a way of storing information about all the individual emlx files that were also introduced with Tiger in place of the "old" single-file mbox storage for mailboxes.
