USA and UK Mail Stamp Icons
Some time ago Antony Ellam created a set of UK mail stamps for Mail.app. They disappeared, but now they are back.
Antony has put them up
on his blog.
The set features first and second class stamps, and the gold one. He has two sets, one “flat” and another which looks more shiny and “Aqua-like”:

He has created one based on the stars and stripes and another set of special issue stamps (some are included in the screenshot above).
Also listed in Antony’s post are links to some original Photoshop files which could serve as templates for people keen to roll their own Mail stamp icons.
Most are available as ICNS files, but some only as PNG images. These you will need to convert using a tool like the excellent and free img2icns utility.
Changing Mail.app’s Dock icon is easy.
I’ve added them back into the Hawk Wings Alternative Mail Stamps Icon list, which now contains 328 329 different icons. Enjoy.
UPDATE: Alex Lawrence emails to send a Royal Mail stamp icon that he has used for many years.
He doesn’t know who made it nor whose intellectual property I am potentially infringing by posting it, but it seems a shame not to make it available.
If you know to whom credit is due, let me know.
In the meantime, you can download it from Hawk Wings, where it’s stored until its rightful owner emerges.

I just can’t get these to work!
Some of the links to download certain versions are broken on the website, and when you do download them the copy and paste icon swap doesn’t work, as each of the .png / .icns files doesn’t have a preview of the icon in the top left under Get Info, it just uses a generic file-type icon. No amount of opening / saving / converting .png to .icns has changed it. Does anyone know how to do this another way?
It is a shame, as I think they are great.

Opened in Graphic Converter, saved as PNG with icon preview. Icon had black background. Drat.
Opened PNG in Photoshop, saved as PSD. Icon had white background. Drat.
Dropped PSD on img2icns, exported folder icon. Icon has transparent background. Copied and pasted into Mail Info window. Excellent.
Probably you could leave out the Photoshop step.

I am getting a black background as well when copyng from Preview, can anyone suggest another process other than exporting to img2icns which I do not have.
Thanks

Is there something that I am missing here?
Why not just download ing2icns using the link provided in the post? It’s free.

Good thinking, I am being a bit slow here!
