And I second what Greg says; use it and you'll see the difference to it being a step better than just dragging the icons onto the Mail.app icon in the dock.

FWIW, I'd also like to see a "toggle attachments for Windows" button I can add in my mail message menu/header area (where you have the buttons for attach, send, save as draft, etc.).

Regardless of if I drag to the Mail.app icon or use the AppleScript, I still need to occasionally attach at least one thing separate to make sure the mail is encoded as "windows friendly attachments" from time to time. (It's not always -- my clients are a mix of Windows and Mac users -- so I don't need a default.)

I send a lot of tiff and jpg files to Outlook users. Many have corporate filters that do not allow inline displays; regardless, almost all prefer the large graphic attachments not to display.

I installed Iconizer today and the Outlook folk say the attachments still are arriving inline. Suggestions?

Thanks...

Very useful tool indeed. However, it does display the pictures in junk mails. This is unconvenient if you must scan your junk folder for false positivs as it takes time to display. Have mailed the author on Monday…

I forgot to mention, I've been using this and it's pretty good. The only problem is Apple Mail still seems to use a large heap of memory when opening a message with lots of attachments, and doesn't seem to give the memory back properly. Anyone else had that issue?

Quite so. Thanks for pointing that out. I'm a big fan of pedantry ;-)

Not wanting to be pedantic or anything, but the "View as Icon" and "View in Place" menu item is always there, even without this installed. This utility simply sets the default state to "View as Icon". I only mention this because it's quite useful to know!
