The Panther Apple Mail app seems to have a design flaw when it comes to animated gifs. In the Panther Apple Mail app, when I attach an animated gif to an email message and send it to myself and/or another person who uses the Panther Apple Mail app, the animated gif does not animate when we open the email message. However, the animated gif will animate when the email message is opened by a person using the Outlook Express email app.
As a workaround, I put the animated gif into a TextEdit document and attach the TextEdit document to an email message that I send to people who use the Panther Apple Mail app, but it seems to me that with today’s advanced level of technology I should not have to use this workaround.
Can anyone solve this exasperating problem with animated gifs in the Panther Apple Mail app?
See this 2004 MacOSXHints Forum entry for more details on the problem:

My favourties > Rebuild your database…
That is my favourite Mail-tip and the most effective of the year 2006.
All the same I tend to forget to do such things on a regular basis, so I put a reminder in iCal to check this every three months. I also rebuilt my database. Was 141mb, is now 1,9mb.
