TextExpander auto-corrections list
One of the things that most helps me to move quickly and efficiently through my email messages is the text snippet manager TextExpander which handles all my signatures, pre-formatted replies, reply templates, impossibly long and complicated names, frequently-needed URLs and so on and so on.
SmileOnMyMac, the app’s developer, has just released a list of over 100 snippets for common typos. When imported into the app, these work as “auto-corrections”, replacing words you might mistype.
Download the free file
from SmileOnMyMac and install it with the “Use additional snippets from:” option in TextExpander’s preferences pane.
If you make mistakes when typing (like me) but don’t want to part with the cash for a dedicated on-the-fly spelling corrector like Spell Catcher X
(unlike me), this list will save you time and energy.

The download file does not work from the textpander site….it’s appearing as a unix executable file.
Can you post the file or send it to me directly?
Thanks,
Jay

The file is not meant to be opened directly once expanded. Please see the instructions on the corresponding web page:

Support –
I am fully aware and executed the instructions on how to use the file I downloaded.
The problem is that my textpander is not recognizing the file via the “choose file” to link to an external file. Further I tried importing the file where the snippets live and the same occured, the downloaded file was not selectable.
i thought perhaps there was something wrong on my end with the download which is apparently not the case after I tried using the file Tim sent me… which was the same file & same result as before, nothing.
Anything else I can do?

You should mail support@smileonmymac.com. We can E-mail you an uncompressed version of the file and take it from there. Also, our response time will be better than on a blog, I suspect.

Tech support was fast, thank you.
I am apparently using the version of textpander that existed prior to smileonmymac’s acquisition of the program which is what is causing the problem.
I will upgrade shortly!

One way to get TextPander (not TextExPander…) to recognize the new autocorrect list is to change the .textexpander extension to .plist. At that point, you can import into the old-school and free TextPander.
Hope that helps people…

You can rename to .textpander too, and that’ll work with the free version.

As Jay found, we are happy to help. As when we took on TextPander http://smileonmymac.net/blog/2006/05/ , providing support, add-ons and upgrades is what we do — and your purchase supports that. Thanks!
