Firefox and the Digg effect
A few days ago, the Hawk Wings list of 254 different stamp icons for Mail.app was dugg.
Before the digg, Mint 
tells me that 58% of visitors to Hawk Wings use Safari and 27% Firefox.
After the digg—and a fair bit of traffic—those figures are 47% and 37%.
I don’t know what it means, but it’s interesting. Perhaps Firefox users are more social.

well, Digg has very ‘techie’ userbase and those tend to use Firefox a lot..

You didn’t say, but what percentage of the Firefox users are on a Mac? I have a Mac-centric site, too, but receive a peculiarly large number of Firefox-Windows hits. I’ve always attributed it to curiosity, bots, and referrer spam.

Mint doesn’t let me cross-reference like that. But it tells me that 75% are using Mac, 23% Windows and 2% Linux.
I didn’t think to write down the before and after digg figures though :(

Nearly a quarter of your hits are from Windows. Doesn’t it strike you as odd that 23% of your hits are from Windows users? I mean, OK, there’s the people that use Windows on the job, Mac at home (what better way to kill time at work than checking out HawkWings?) but you have to admit that’s pretty surprising. Unless you have had a page digged. Perhaps you should consider what may have attracted Windows users…interesting icons, eg. Even so, I doubt percentages could be tilted that far based on Firefox-Windows users. return mathBad(myHouse).

Sorry for the latent follow-up: if I were a Mac Guy using Windows, my browser of choice would Firefox. Otherwise, Safari on the Mac.

Hi Doug, Here has always been a high proportion of Windows-using visitors. I put it down to traffic from people at work as you suggest.
One even went so far as to upbraid me about how crap the site looks in Internet Explorer :)
I don’t think that percentage was affected either way by the “digg factor”.

Hmm, it would be nice if Mint would link the os to the browser. Maybe a nice idea for a Pepper request?
I’m using Firefox on OsX as well, I can’t stand Safari.

If I were able to use a Mac all day, I surely would. When I must use Windows, I stick to Firefox. Being able to use this same browser on both the Mac and Windows makes for a semi-consistent experience.
