AttachmentScannerPlugin goes universal

paperclipJames Eagan has updated his AttachmentScanner plugin to make it a universal binary.

This is a clever little plugin for Mail.app which prevents absent-minded people like me from sending emails without first including the attachments they should contain.

As he explains on his site , the universal version is enormous (7.3MB) because it includes a full universal version of Python.

In addition, the plugin now attempts to use the language set in the Spell Checker rather than the default System language. So, if your System language is set to English but your Spell Checker is set to Spanish, it will use the latter to determine if an attachment is present or not.

You can get the plugin (PPC, universal or source code) from his web site .attachments, mail.app, apple mail, plugins, doh!, email, addons

Excellent, thanks for the update! James even included my German translation. :)

That Attachment Scanner is exactly what I need, But unfortunately you stated it will only work with Tiger. Any chance you are developing one for Panther, 10.3.9?
At my age I have a terrible habit of forgetting to include the attachment.
I certainly admire you folks that develop this programs. I can barely get my iMac to work properly all the time.
    Thanks

    Hi Rudolph,

I don’t actually develop the plugin. I can’t code at all.

Why not drop the developer an email and ask him? He’s a nice guy.

Haven’t been able to find an email address for James Eagen whom I believe is the developer of Attachment Scanner. Any help?

I have used the code of James Eagan’s great tutorial about creating a plugin for Mail.app but it doesn’t work for my Intel Mac (unable to load the plugin). I would like to build a very simple universal plugin and as a beginning I am trying to find if the source code of AttachmentScannerPlugin is published. Any help?

James knows a lot more about this than I do. Have you dropped him an email?

  8. Yiannis says:

Tim: Yes, actually I emailed him a week ago (the email is in his web site) but i didn’t receive any answer. I need to write the plugin ASAP, so have you any idea how can I contact with him (an alternative)? even an update in his tutorial would have been very helpful.
