Quicksilver cheatsheet, documentation
A flurry of activity on the Quicksilver forums has produced two useful aids for Quicksilver users.
Howard Melman has begun writing a user manual. It’s a work in progress, but it already contains a general introduction to the concepts behind Quicksilver and a guide to installation and basic use.
Further sections on how to use QS with iChat and text and email and much more follow. Frequent screenshots add value to the written instructions.
Howard has also produced a “cheatsheet” or Quick Reference for Quicksilver, which squeezes most of the commonly-used actions onto one page (sample below):

You can get the user manual
and/or the cheatsheet
in PDF form from Howard’s web site. Thanks yous can be given, and further suggestions made, to Howard in the Quicksilver forum thread
.

Excellent. Now if someone could just document the process of creating Quicksilver plugins, I’d be a happy camper. I’ve tried to figure out where to start, but haven’t been able to find information to get me going.

I have been using QS for what seems like forever, but I’ve always been stymied by the lack of docs. I don’t have time to wade through the forums, so this news has made me a *VERY* happy camper.

A new version (and all future versions) of the manual can be found here. If you have comments (and I hope you do) please post them on the Quicksilver forums in this thread.
Note there isn’t much on installation and I’m waiting for the next Quicksilver release before documenting Preferences, as they’re changing a lot.

This is great. I could use more information about how to use QS better. Thanks for the link.t

Lots of folk rave about QS, but I’ve not had the wherewithal before to make sense of it.
I tried wading through the documentation and I tried just using it. Neither approach worked much. Also it took several tries to get the plugins happening.
So, a Quicksilver manual sounds great. Safari is currently reporting network probs downloading it, but Firefox had no trouble.

Hi David — there’s a great setup guide
for Quicksilver at 43 Folders.
You can also find many other good Quicksilver posts
there. Merlin’s almost made the genre his own.

Anyone here know if/when there’ll be a QS 1.0 release? It still seems like too much of a moving target for me, which I admit is an excuse not to try it sooner and get distracted just tinkering with it instead actually increasing productivity.

I don’t know about a “formal” release. These days don’t developers on the cutting edge regard it as a mark of distinction to stay in beta as long as possible (cf. Gmail)?
