Mail.app, Gmail domain hosting, pine

GmailTimo Kuhn is delighted about how well Apple Mail is working with domain hosting for his email at Gmail. He gets to marry his love for Apple Mail with the fact that he doesn’t always have his PowerBook with him. It all works so well that he asks, “Who needs IMAP?”.

Arieanna hasn’t had such a good experience with Apple Mail and Gmail. Needs some spam filtering for her blog too.

snarfed.org points out what’s good, bad and ugly about Gmail compared to pine in a thoughtful post by a Google employee (which reminds me, a new version of MacPine (4.64) was released not long ago).

  1. I still make every attempt to avoid google at all costs, their recent actions are counter to what I want in a service, free or not. Not to turn this into a political soap box, just noting:)

It’s very unusual for anyone on this blog to express concern about Google! ;-)

It is even more disturbing, I think, to see the censored searching in action, comparing results on google.cn abd google.com .

  3. Is Google serving ads in their email hosting service? We offer an ad-free email hosting service for pennies per month at http://www.emailhosting.com

How can you possibly offer the service for free?
