Plugin to scan for missing attachments
James Eagan has written a clever plugin. It scans a Mail.app message and will let you know if you have referred to an attachment but forgotten to include it.
It comes in the form of a classic plugin mailbundle which you can drop into the Bundle directory in your Mail folder after quitting Mail.
If you refer to an attachment in the email but try to send it without attaching one, you will see this warning:

The plugin only works with OS 10.4.
I’ve been using it for about three minutes and have not encountered any conflicts with other plugins and addons.
As far as I can tell, the plugin is freeware and is available from James’ web site
.
UPDATE: Sebastian has posted a link in the comments to a German version
of the plugin.

If this only worked in German, too…

Why not drop James an email and offer to do a German localisation?

I’m already on it! :-)

Well, it would be really easy to change if there weren’t those nasty German umlauts ä, ö and ü. I’m out of luck at the moment and wrote an email to James. I’m confident he knows how to do it.

I need this for Thunderbird too. That’d be sweeeeet.

Hurray! Now Mail has something similar to Mulberry’s “missing attachments warning”.
Maybe James (or someone with sufficient skill) will add a prefpane where patterns to be matched can be added instead of using a hardcoded list?

Does anyone know of a plugin like this for 10.3.9? Someone out there must be able to port Eagan’s 10.4 version, right?

Here’s the German version which checks for English and German appearances of attachment-specific words:

Thanks to James for helping me out with the German umlauts. :)

Wrote to James Eagan to ask whether his Attachment Scanner will eventually be available for Panther OS (10.3.9) and he replied in the negative.
Would anyone know whether a similar plug-in is available for Panther instead just for Tiger?
Thanks for your help, if any is forthcoming.

Rudolph how did you contact with James Eagan? I am trying to make a very simple universal plugin and I would like some information, so I sent him email and i didn’t get an answer. Does anybody know if the source code is published somewhere?
