I was wondering if anyone has found a solution to Mail.app going offline without permission issue, yet. I am tech support for university and one of my MAC users is having this problem.

I share the same experience about the modal dialogue box popping up: not quite often, but I am on 1Mbit dsl, and I regularly check a couple accounts at one time, but still. At least, Mail shouldnt act as if something with the password would be wrong -- that's _not_ Mac-like (it reminds one of M$-stuff and whatever).

Two other complaints of mine: why (for christ sake! – sorry ...) isnt it possible to apply rules to outgoing mails? This used to be (and, of course, still is) a standard with Eudora (great, but ugly mail-client, btw; I am holding still hopes for Eudora X 7).

The Stop-button/icon in the activity viewer is darn ugly and a shame for Apple and the whole idea about the Mac, Aqua, gui's in general etc. It looks so OS X-public beta'ish.

i agree with the problems regarding dial-up. ugh. what a head ache that is. i truly enjoy using mail and have few complaints but this one is a biggie. and i think jerry is correct, it does not seem to be just a dial-up issue.

i'm actually very surprised to see this kind of behavior still hanging around in mail. they've done such a fantastic job in so many areas of the app. with all of the integration with spotlight and address book, i certainly have no plans of changing... fingers crossed that apple will fix this.

I don't think the problem is strictly a dial-up issue. I see those pretty regularly on my laptop, which goes from a home DSL to an office T1. If the mail host has any problems (goes offline, comes back on slowly) then mail does the same modal password dialog. It really it is a pain.

I'll chip in with the loss of status bar as my top "whine" for mail. I suppose if everything was always running perfectly then the status bar would be unneeded. Until that grand, illustrious day I'd sure like to see what mail is doing at any given moment.
