Any news if this has improved importing of apple mail and addresses?

No. Not as far as I can see.
The patch request for Address Book integration on Bugzilla – https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=203927 – has been open for 2.5 years (!), with no signs no real movement.

that’s a shame, lord knows it can’t be too cumbersome. If Microsoft can handle it, so can mozilla… atleast I’d hope after 2.5 years!

You should link your post about the vCard to LDIF converter to the “Related Posts.”
For those who are wondering, that converter is a web app available at:
http://labs.brotherli.ch/vcfconvert/
Highlight your address book entries, export to vCard, upload to the site, download an LDIF.
Additionally, as I’ve mentioned elsewhere, if you have Quicksilver installed you basically have the address book integration in Thunderbird. Just Quicksilver up a contact (cntrl+space name) or a list of contacts (cntrl+space name comma name comma name …), tab over, and then type “Compose”. It will pop up your default mail app (Thunderbird, in my case) with a new message addressed to that list. If you practice, you can get as fast at this as you can using Thunderbird’s native address book.

Unfortunately, the “Related Posts” plugin has a mind of its own.
I think of it as a friend whose lateral thinking is full of surprises and new insights.
But I see that you have done the job for it ;-)
