5 ways to de-Scrooge this Christmas
- Consider giving something back to the Internet. Check out Devanshu’s list of worthy WWW causes or make your own list.
- Turn off your computer for 24 hours. Give an uninterrupted day of your life to the person you care about the most. (Plan in advance. Steel yourself.)
- Read I Heard the Owl Call My Name by Margaret Craven.
- Register your shareware and give something in return for your favourite donation-ware. The developer of a well-used Mail.app plug-in once told me he expects 5% of its users to register. It’s a scandal really.
- Give your family and friends goats, vaccines or drinkable water for a developing community from Christian Aid or Oxfam America or some other good group.

Great list- thanks for the link. On the subject of ‘turning your computer off for 24 hours’, when you do that, think of all the free web sites and free applications you miss the most at the end of those 24 hours. And donate to them! :)

Good idea!
Although doesn’t turning off your computer to spend time with someone you love, and then thinking all day about what you could be doing on the Internet, defeat the whole ‘gift of giving’ idea? ;-)

Yes, but you can claim that you think of them (your loved one) while you’re on the internet :P
