Apple Mail’s missing IMAP IDLE feature

Aaron Marks explains what the IDLE feature should do under the IMAP4 protocol, celebrates how well it works in Thunderbird and laments the fact that Mail.app doesn’t use it.

    Yes, the lack of this feature is quite unfortunate. I have been forced to switch to thunderbird as well. But I missed Mail.app’s search capability so much, I found a command-line replacement called mairix, and managed to integrate it with roundcube:
