Switching from Outlook to Apple Mail via Mozilla

I’ve blogged before about using DbxConv and Outlook2Mac to switch Outlook messages, contacts and calendars over to Apple Mail.

Today I found another way. Dave Riches has written a tutorial on making the move using Mozilla as the middle-man.

The tutorial is written for Entourage, but don’t that put you off. It makes mbox files that can just as easily be imported into Mail.app. For importing the mbox files, you could follow Andreas Amann’s advice and use Eudora Mailbox Cleaner for a cleaner result.

The process is still more complicated than using Outlook2Mac but looks easier than using DbxConv.

I have a question: Will this Mozilla method work with Outlook for Mac? If not, do you have any suggestions for how to move mail from Outlook for Mac to Apple Mail (or to Entourage) with a tree structure of folders and subfolders intact?

    Hmmm….

Do you mean Outlook Express for Mac? Or Entourage, the Mac email client that comes with Office for Mac?

Either way, Apple Mail should be able to import your mail without any problems. Just choose “Import Mailboxes” from Mail.app’s File menu and then follow the prompts.

Or is there something more complicated about this that I am not understanding?

The more complicated thing is that it’s Outlook Express but Outlook for Exchange which currently only runs on OS 9, in Mac Classic mode. Apparently it’s not simple at all. Nothing seems to recognize the .pst file.
