Exporting Hotmail contacts into Address Book
Here’s something else that visitors to Hawk Wings often search for….
If you are moving over from
I don’t have a Hotmail account, so I can’t double-check any of this, but it seems that there are a few ways to do it.
Via Outlook Express
Users with a premium Hotmail accounts can use Outlook Express to synchronise their contact list in OE with the web-based one (click on the Addresses, then go to Tools, Synchronize Now). Save them out as a CSV (Comma Separated Value) file and then they can follow the instructions in this tip: “Importing Contacts from Outlook or Outlook Express”.
If you are already a Mac user with a premium Hotmail account, find a PC-using friend and create an identity in their Outlook Express, save out the synchronised contacts and go back to the tip above.
Via Microsoft Excel
Following this tip on the Trumba Help Centre, you can copy them from the web-based Hotmail interface and create a CSV file in Excel. This looks like the most direct and efficient way to me, and will work for Mac and PC Hotmail users alike.
Via MSN Instant Messenger
A tip on the Ask Leo web site describes how to do this with Microsoft’s Instant Messenger. I have read this tip six times and still don’t understand it, but you might find it plain as day.
