Of course, it’s great to get an update to Apple Mail and find a lot of things fixed or improved.

But there’s a downside too. Joe Kissell suffers the most; he has to rewrite slabs of his upcoming Take Control of Apple Mail in Tiger book.

The update also killed one of my tips. The list of improvements in Mail 2.0.5 suggests that,

Smart Groups of addresses can now be dragged from Address Book to a message?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s To, Cc, or Bcc field.

In fact, you don’t need to drag it. Just type the name of the Smart Group into the To, Cc or Bcc field of the Compose window and Mail.app finds it and inserts the addresses. That means this work-around for Address Book Smart Groups is no longer needed. Vale!

In a perverse way, I almost wish that 10.4.3 had killed more tips and work-arounds, like the ones for Broken long URLs in Apple Mail or launching Apple Mail in a hidden state. But it’s not nice to grumble on 10.4.3′s first day.
