Hey, it's great that you found our widget. Anyway, I can assure you that miniMail is not malicious in any way. Since the code is open source by nature, you are free to verify this yourself. However, it does make use of the PHP mail() function, and can be misused in unethical and damaging ways. We absolutely do not condone usage of the widget in this way. There's a disclaimer in the widget package if you're curious.

P.S. ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú This does have some interesting and legal uses, though?¢‚Ǩ‚Äúperfect for getting around web mail servers and stuff like that.

OK. Fair enough.

But couldn't you just add the individual address as alias to an account, as described <a href="http://www.hawkwings.net/2005/09/18/managing-aliases-in-apple-mail/" rel="nofollow">here</a>?

You asked "Why?"... I can think of at lease one very good use for this. I use a different email address for each site, mailing list or service is sign up for, allowing me to trace at the source of at least some of the spam I get. However, when I want to send an email using these addresses, it's a right pain because Mail.app doesn't allow one to use a custom "From:" address.

*If* this isn't a scam to harvest email addresses, this could be very useful for me... Up until now, I have been telnetting in to my SMTP server and doing it manually, which isn't exactly user friendly!

Sure. You'll get no arguments from me on that one ;-)

An odd thing for a developer to put in the product description, don't you think?

Whether the email account supports POP access is irrelevant to sending mail.
