More on international character display problems
It’s not news that some Apple Mail users have problems with the rendering of international characters in their emails when they are read in Outlook.
The usual workaround for this involves setting the default encoding in Mail.app’s com.apple.mail.plist file via the Terminal.
But Chris, a German blogger, has hit upon another solution.
He noticed problems with text display and attachments in his emails when read by others in Outlook. After some poking around, he tracked down the problem to umlauts in his signature file. When switching to OS X, he had originally entered the sig by cutting and pasting from whatever he used before.
After typing the signature afresh into Mail.app’s signature pane, the problems disappeared and his emails and attachments came out fine in Outlook. Interesting.
