Clear “mis-learnt” words from the spell-checker
Ever added ‘teh’ or ‘adn’ to Apple’s spell-checker by moving too quickly or not really paying attention? Sometimes write embarrassing emails as a result?
From the Apple Discussion Boards come two ways of removing those misspelt additions:
- Find and open the file at ~/Library/Spelling/en (or possibly ~/Library/Spelling/en_GB) in your Home directory. TextEdit or any other text-editor will do the job. All the words that you have added are there. Browse and remove. (Best if you suspect there might be a lot of mistakes but you can’t remember exactly what they are).
- Bring up the Spelling dialogue box by selecting “Spelling…” from the Spelling option in Apple Mail’s Edit menu or by the keyboard shortcut Command-: and type the offending word into the text box (as below). Click Forget and it is gone. (Best if you know what the mistake is, or spot a particular word that the spell-checker is not underlining because it knows it wrongly).
