Inbox trauma
Yesterday was a very unhappy day for at least two Apple Mail users.
Mac Medic at A Mac Guy’s Perspective writes about one of his customers:
Had this one happen today. Customer was using Mail and selected all the messages in his inbox by hitting, CMD-A. Then when not really looking he hit CMD-X. Thus deleting all his messages without warning. Now, he could have undone it or pasted them back, but he restarted. Which is usually a good thing to do. In this case though it erases the clipboard file and all those messages are now gone.
And over at macosx.com, a student writes:
Recently the college I attended discontinued service for all recently graduated students (like me). So I wanted to take the mailbox off of Mail but still have all the messages somewhere. So I hastily deleted the Inbox for that mailbox by going under “IN” and hitting delete (and then it asked if i wanted to, and i hit continue or something).
There’s nothing worse than some smarty-pants offering sage advice after the event, but…. Backup, backup, backup.

Did I really come off as a “smarty pants”. Whoops. I will be more careful in the future. Thanks for the link man. Great blog, I’ve been looking for an Apple Mail blog out here.

I’ve never came across macosx.com. Does this mean I am not suffering from inbox trauma? :)

No, I was referring to me giving advice about backing up after the event. I thought you sounded very patient.
