YMail: Menubar notification for Yahoo! Mail users.

YMailYmail provides menu-bar notification for emails in your Yahoo! Mail account. Like Gmail Notifier for Gmail users, it offers a much better notification option (IMHO) than the various widgets that do the same job.

Launching the app loads a “Y” into the menubar which provides a drop-down menu full of options:

I still think that using MacFreePOPs to get your emails out of web-based services and into Apple Mail is the best way to read your emails. (There are reports that MacFreePOPs doesn’t work with newer Yahoo! accounts, but it works fine with mine, created only eleven months ago).

Still, for those times and in those environments when you can’t use Apple Mail, this is a good option.

Ymail is free and open source (the code is also available) and available from its Sourceforge page.

Combine YMail with Growl and you have the best looking (and performing!) Yahoo Mail notfier out there.

BUT… if you are concerned about security, be aware that YMail stores your Yahoo password as plain text in its preference file.

The author does say they will add integrate into Keychain soon:

Having said that, I recommend it 100%
