Stop Apple Mail accounts going off-line
A German blogger describes how he thought his mail server has eaten his emails, when in fact the problem was something else:
Hmmm.. Recently my mail server has been giving me problems. Now it has eaten my email. I’ve just worked out that I haven’t received any notifications about new trackbacks and comments since yesterday. I don’t like that at all!
EDIT: Oh, God! It wasn’t the dog [that ate the emails] but its young master. The Apple Mail account was in “Working offline” mode so the emails didn’t show up. I’ve just read them now.
The old “Working offline” trick! I’ve suffered this a few times myself.
However, there is an AppleScript that can force your accounts to go online and check for mail. The text of the script and instructions for setting it up can be found in a post at macOSXHints.com. If this is a persistent or annoying thing for you, you should check it out.
