Cross-platform, portable Firefox!
DrunkenBlog asked for a cross-platform, portable Firefox. And a developer by the name of Sam Krupa has delivered.
He has produced a version of Firefox that runs on a memory stick (or any other portable device like an iPod). After installing it, you just take the memory stick and plug it into any computer you can see running Windows or OS X, and you’re good to go. Amazing.
It requires one small edit to the script that launches the browser on a Mac, but Sam provides clear instructions on how to do it.
I wouldn’t mention this at all on a blog about Apple Mail, except that it got me thinking. How good would it be if someone could develop a portable version of Apple Mail, one that would at least run “plug-n-play” on any Mac? I imagine that it would more complicated than simply storing your Apple Mail folders on an iPod, but it must be possible.
Pocomail, a Windows email client, has had a portable version that runs on a memory stick for years.
BTW, Cross-platform, portable Firefox is available from Sam Krupa’s website.
(Thanks, Dan.)
