Filter your IMAP folder subscriptions with Perl

PerlApple Mail’s IMAP implementation doesn’t allow you to choose which IMAP folders you want to subscribe to. As a result, in environments with a large number of shared folders, Apple Mail’s performance suffers.

Lars Eggert has written a Perl script which acts as an IMAP proxy and filters the number of folders before handing the result over to Mail.app. Only the folders you select get through to Apple Mail!

This sounds like a great idea for Terminal-heads, although users like me wouldn’t know where to start with installing it. I second his plea that someone write a GUI for this, opening it up to less technically-adept users.

People who know how to use it can download the script from Lars’ blog.

I read about this on Craig Sawyer’s blog.
