MacResponder enables Apple Mail to send auto-replies. Of course you can do this with rules or with the Vacation Script, but MacResponder is easier and more flexible. MacResponder is fully customizable, works with multiple email accounts, and features rule-based settings to customize what message is sent.
It keeps track of the people it has replied to, ensuring that people only receive one reply. The only drawback is that your computer has to be on all the time. I used this last Summer and was impressed. My PC-using work buddies, who said that Macs couldn’t do this, had to eat their words.
The demo version allows 24 hours of continuous use. A full professional licence costs USD 19.95 and a personal one USD 9.95. The app is available from the developer’s website.
