MailWidget: Mail without Apple Mail

MailWidgetMailWidget is another addition to the list of many widgets available for email polling and notification.

Michael Kwasnicki, the developer, describes its four virtues over the existing offerings:

This widget checks your POP3 email account every time Dashboard is activated ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äù without having Apple Mail running all the time. So far there is nothing special but, unlike other widgets, MailWidget remembers which email was received the last time Apple Mail was started. That?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s especially helpful for those who don?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t delete their old mail from the mail server immediately in order to be able to read their last mail on travels. Other widgets might say something like ?¢‚Ǩ?ìthere are 88 messages on the mail server?¢‚Ǩ¬ù but only MailWidget will tell if there are new emails that hadn?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t already been received by Apple Mail.
- very lightweight
- very fast
- no other application has to be running in background
- shows only NEW email on your account (just start Mail by clicking on it and it will remeber the last email you received)

It’s freeware and available from the developer’s website.
