Tweaking Gmail Notifier for extra features
A post on macOSXHints outlines two ways to do more with Gmail Notifier, information that originally appeared in a post on Google’s blog.
Gmail Notifier can be “hacked” so that it notifies you about emails only matching a particular Gmail label. For example, to be notified about emails only with the label “AppleMail”, type the following into your Mac’s terminal:
defaults write com.google.GmailNotifier Label -string “AppleMail”
Gmail Notifier can also be extended with plug-ins written in AppleScript or Cocoa bundles. Gmail+Growl shows how the notifier can be modified in this way.

But why the fook does following a link in the “Google Notifier” take you to just the message and not to your normal Gmail message view? Someone must pay for this insult. On a lighter note, pair Google Notifier with Growl, and Mail.app with Growl, set the notification sounds to the same one (blow?) and you’ve got unified mail notification. Especially since the latest beta of Adium no longer cares about mail notifications…another insult ol’ Cecil’s gonna make someone pay for.
By the by, this email’s only gonna last a week, so if you’ve got replies, make ‘em snappy.
