HTTPMail: Hotmail in Apple Mail
The HTTPMail plug-in allows Apple Mail to email from the Hotmail and MSN servers. Once it couldn’t send emails via Hotmail, but now it can. It comes in Jaguar, Panther and Tiger flavours.
Once installed, various options can be configured in its Apple Mail preferences pane:

It is freeware and can be downloaded from the developer’s website.

Hi, this application would be a real solution for me allowing me to switch from Entourage (where I read most of my mail which is from Hotmail) to Apple Mail.
My challenge is that after installing successfully and checking all the notes I still don’t get it work. I sent a couple of mails to the developer without success. Basically it does not offer me the httpmail as an option when creating a new account.
Any ideas?
Thanks. Martin.

That’s disappointing.
Try MacFreePOPs or MailForward, which both do the same thing.
The former is freeware and requires more tweaking to get going, the latter is shareware and easier to set up.

Yes, it works. “FreePops” had not worked for MONTHS, but this did. At last, I can again get my Hotmail messages into Mac’s Mail.app.
HTTPmail installed easily and quickly, and began working immediately.
Whew! What a relief after all these months of frustration.

No, it doesn’t.
Looking at the bug tracker
, I see that no bugs have been submitted since March, which doesn’t bode well.
Another reader posted today that MacFreePOPs is working fine with Hotmail. Perhaps you could give that a try?

Hello to everyone.
I post this here as a solution to a problem I had and almost made me believe the plugin wouldn’t work for me.
For years I used Entourage on my mac, and now I am moving to apple mail. After configuring my hotmail account in apple mail, It wouldn’t connect to the mail server.
After 2 days searching around the net and looking for answers I finaly went to the preferences and in the HTTPMail plugin tab and changed the “User Agent” from “Entourage” to “Outlook” and right away it started downloading my hotmail messsages ! !
How dumb I had been not to check that straight away. Well, because I had been using Entourage w/ hotmail w/ no problem I thought there were no reason to change the User Agent.
I hope this experience of mine can help someone out there !
cheers

The developer did not complete compiling this. You have to finish compiling it in Terminal. Too bad the developer didn’t write a script that would run with the installer to do what needs to be done in Terminal. There is just too much of this half-done, Linux-y, geeky stuff on Sourceforge. I waste my time downloading and installing this stuff only to find that it doesn’t work until I do some building in Terminal.
